In late 2011, NPR Music selected Sugar Tongue Slim as one of their Favorite New Artists Of 2011 . On MARCH 15TH, the highly respected music outlet is going a step further by showcasing STS at SXSW for their Free Day Party, alongside artist The Magnetic Feilds, Lower Dens, La Vida Boheme and Poliça.
Hot off the release of his new project, GOLDRush, Sugar Tongue Slim visits Austin with full band that includes MPIII Music and DJ BearOne.The show will feature songs off his critically acclaimed album, The Illustrious as well as GOLDRush cuts like “Cut Me Off” and “Something About You”. Backing STS on stage will be MPIII Music and DJ BearOne.
Recorded in Atlanta’s legendary Tree Sound Studios, The Illustrious, was released in August 2011. The project would end up on NPR’s list of Top 50 favorite release of 2011 alongside Adele, Frank Ocean and Watch The Throne.
“Illustrious is the way I want people to feel when they hear my music. It’s how I feel. Every occasion, every location, every ensemble in my wardrobe, but more importantly my music is illustrious.” The free album album featured appearances by YelaWolf, Farnsworth Bently and Tony Williams as well as production from SKI BEATZ (Jay-Z, Camp-Lo, Curren$y), ALCHEMIST (Nas, Linkin Park), WILL POWER (YelaWolf, Wiz Khalifa) and The Knux (B.O.B).
What started off with Wale and Rick Ross soon followed with flips on the likes of Coldplay, Big Sean, Drake, Britney Spears as well as international mainstays like Tinie Tempah,Kavinski and Gotye. The full-length project is available for free at STSisgold.com.
Most recently, Sugar Tongue Slim began his weekly #GOLDRush campaign by flippin’ some of music’s most popular records and making them his own.

Since 2008, NPR Music and stations have broadcast and webcast a slew of concerts from SXSW, debuting new albums from The Decemberists and Broken Bells, and introducing audiences to Sleigh Bells, K’Naan, Bon Iver and many others.
